Post subject:  Kodascope FS-10 vs FS-10-N

Hi, I just found an FS-10 projector where the cabinet splits into a table and speaker. I see the -N has a separate box with the speaker. I could only locate a manual for the later -N model. My question is are the projector and amplifier identical in both? Am I safe using the diagrams, part numbers, bulbs, belts etc of both? Except for the mounting of a threadlight, I don't see any obvious differences. And is the speaker the same also?

This is my first foray into film land and I am anxious to try out some of the pile of 16mm reels I found on Craigslist. The seller listed westerns, cartoons and comedies, and when I picked them up, warned me there were a couple of "girlie" films among them. From his description, they are tame stuff by todays standards.

I am a collector of tube radios - civilian and military. The old movie bug bit me when I put in a $3 bid on an old hand wind Keystone projector and won the auction. Of course that led to wanting something to play on it. And then deciding something more sophisticated was needed. Finding the FS-10 locally for $40 sealed my fate. Now I'll need to sell enough radios to clear space for my own little theatre. My goal is to get my little nieces and nephews interested in old B&W as they won't watch an old movie on tv. But you can't make finger puppets in front of the television.

Thanks for any help forthcoming.

Hey Phil: Just joined this forum and read your thread. I have the FS-10 and will be getting an N parts machine this week. I have manual that is for the N also. I'll compare and let you know. I do know that the N also came in the same case as the FS-10 in addition to the other one you mention. I'm betting the only difference is the threading light and the on/off switch. BTW, I work in Richfield and live in Burnsville.

Dan: That is the FS-10-N. Note the threading light mounted on the lens housing and the silver on/off toggle switch next to the motor/lamp control. The plain FS-10 does not have these and as far as I can tell, that is the only difference between the two.

I've seen and had several antique projectors and must say this one is very art deco. The table design and the shape of the reel arms gives it a unique look.

I agree Dan. The Navy model had the plain speaker shown, my non-Navy model, the FS-10 has a speaker that is definitely Art Deco. Only problem with these older Kodaks was the take up reel extended below the plane of the bottom of the projector and thus had to be on a table where the reel could over hang the edge.

I really like that art deco speaker grill. I think the table is really cool. It gives a unique look for sure. Are these projectors quite and what are the watt specs for the lamps?

Dan: Yes, they are nice and quiet. They take a 120V 300, 500 or 750 watt bulb, P28S ANSI.
