I eventually just gave up and sold the musical, along with a couple other semi-junk films, to a local antique shop; which sells them to folks who just want reels of old film to hang on the wall in their home video theatres. Hey, don't laugh (too much anyway), it's a pretty good way to salvage a few bucks out of the stuff! |

Hi John, things have changed a bit. Until final results I'm going to hesitate to go any further with the "mixture" What I can suggest is as Dan mentioned using the Filmguard and I like to add some pure camphor to a can as well to help relax curl. |

Thanks Wayne. Did you mean that the "mixture" has not yet proven itself therefore the reluctance to recommend at this point? Did you get the formula for Peter Goed's mixture and base yours on that? Is this a mixture based on camphor? Before I proceed on trying to resurrect the 8mm film I'm collecting all the info I can on the best course of action as I figure I have only one chance with this film. Someone told me that on a scale of 1 to 10...this film looks like a 10 (and that is not the good end of the scale!). I've looked at "replasticizing", "redimensioning", and re-humidifying processes. I have bits and pieces of formulas for the different processes from historical documents. No current processes except for Peter Goed's....and he seems to have vanished. I'm thinking that FilmGuard may not work on a film this far gone? suggestions? John |

I have had Peter's mixture years ago but ran out and he quit making/selling it. What we are using now is from another friend who has done some research & consulting on his own with chemists and now is in the trial and error stages. As for using camphor, I have been using that for many, many years now just on its own with good but slow results. Using it in conjunction with FilmGuard (not mixed with FilmGuard) simply can't hurt. |
