If you have some old Goldberg metal reels that have seen better days and have much scabbed-off paint and maybe some rust too, I've found that Rust-Oleum's "leather brown gloss" spray enamel will make them look like new again. It's a near-perfect match for Goldberg's brown enamel finish, only a little shinier; and because it's Rust-Oleum, it should help prevent further rust. (Provided you've cleaned the reels and scraped off any existing rust as best you can.)

I found this paint very reasonably priced at Kmart, but it's no doubt available at your favorite hardware or department store.

[set5_b/set5_b/iagree.gif] although I don't suspect any members of THIS forum needs the reminder, other forums and fleabay have some real dippitydoos who would paint away not thinking about the film on the reel. [set5_b/set5_b/smilielol5.gif]

I hate to be a burdon but I really don't see a point in refubishing a rusted reel. There are so many original and repops on the market in new condition that there is really no need to refinish a reel. I've bought boxfulls of plastic and steel GB reels in new condition for pennies from private collectors. Bent or rusted reels usually get thrown away in my house. Just my opinion.

If you have a particular empty metal reel you'd like to de-rust, use Evapo-Rust.

http://www.evapo-rust.com/

You can buy it at O'Reilly's Auto Parts in both the quart and gallon size containers.
