Recently read an article on some unusual 16mm nitrate stock film found in Italy. They were mostly dubbed negatives of Walter Lantz cartoons released post-WW II by a film bureau run by the Roman Catholic Church. Apparently with postwar shortages, Ferrania reserved their inventory of safety base for consumer film and 16mm release prints, and made internegative, sound recording, and other types to be used only by professional labs on nitrate.

The labs that struck these particular negs were also run by the church, and nuns processed and printed the films. (Sister Mary Nitrate??)
