Is there a specific piece of equipment that can be used to play the magnetic sound strip on 16mm film?
Perhaps some type of reel to reel tape player?

Thank you!

What Mr. Weintraub may be thinking of is a "sound reader" of the type used by TV stations to edit magnetic track news film back in the 60's and 70's. No idea where you'd find one now in working order. Think they used to call them "squawk boxes;" they were connected to the editing scope, and because the film was cranked thru them by hand they were no good for music but OK for speech, at least for editing purposes.

It may indeed be possible to adapt a tape recorder for this. Again the sound quality may not be good, but if all you want is to find out "what's on there," it might do.
