Let's say you have a favorite title which has never had an I.B. or low fade printing, what would you do?

I once had a couple of B/W prints of Gone With The Wind that I could not bare to watch. In some cases, if I have never seen the color print of a title, a B/W will be fine. I have a Robert Mitchum film entitled Foriegn Intrigue that I have never seen in color. There a few SP and Eastman prints in my collection that have retained just enough color that I enjoy, but a beet red is more than I can stand to watch.

C but I'd buy a DVD if it was available. If not - no, I'd sooner do without.
I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than watch an even slightly faded print.

Wow Michael...those are some high standards!

I don't mind faded so much but RED I could pass on. I have a 16mm print of "Flower Drum Song" that is red...it was a gift...and after watching it I had a headache. Even still I can't throw it away....go figure.

Well, Bill, if a title is available on DVD or even VHS with all it's colour, I can see absolutely no reason to watch anything less. I mean...if you're watching a faded print, you're not really seeing the film as intended are you? Know what I mean?

If something of historical interest turned up on faded stock and was not available in ANY other form then I would, of course, watch it, but it would need to be important.

To be honest though, my interests mainly lie in the silent era and the 30's so I don't buy many colour prints anyway.

Yes I know what you mean. I really can't afford full features so most of the one's I have are B&W and the few I have in color that are faded were gifts or bought very cheap. I get a thrill out of running the projector and screening film so I can be pretty forgiving about the prints. If I were sinking alot of money into buying prints my standards would be much higher and I would only want the best. My cinema is LOW budget...but I'm having fun!!!

My collecting is very definitely low-budget too, Bill. In fact, I rarely buy film at the moment.

I see you're in Massillon - did you go to Cinesation over the weekend at all?

I just drove past the cinema and thought to myself...I think the festival was this weekend! :(

No, I did not go but was going to try to see MISTAKEN ORDERS. The Lincoln is a very nice theatre. I know during this event they show FILM but during the rest of the year they show old movies but most if not all are digital projection. I've been to a couple showings and was disappointed.

Actually if I would have remembered I really could not have attended because I'm broke at the moment.

So...I stay home and watch my faded prints..... :D

There are some nice photos over on Nitrateville. I looks like a really nice town and theatre.
