Tonbridge is only an hour from Soho and 1 hour 15 minutes from the Deluxe and Pinewood etc which makes it the ideal base for us and means we can still offer an fast response to those urgent requests. We offer a collection and delivery service to all companies in the UK via our van service and via Fedex to the rest of the world. This move made in response to the high rents in London and requests from our customers for me not to retire just yet. This was the only way to continue as the gaps between jobs gets bigger. I am happy to set up a cutting room at the studios or the laboratories for major pictures should the production company require me too. My negative management service has now become a major part of my services on offer along with our traditional negative cutting service, with more post production being carried out in UK on overseas produced productions the requirement for the negative to be visually examined, logged and crossed checked, well in advance of cutting or scanning the negative has become vital . Once the negative has been logged and checked, your cutting copy or EDL can be translated into cut lists ready for negative cutting in to either frame accurate cut negative for printing or for scanning via overlength selects or whole slates. All formats are catered for, 16mm, 35mm 2 perf, 3 perf, 4 perf, final conform EDL’s can be produced in PAL 24/25, NTSC drop and non-drop film formats. Some producers do question our costs, but we always point out that the original master negative is THE FILM, this service is seen by many of our customers as a form of insurance, as any issues with the negative and any potential extra costs that may occur later in the post production can be resolved very early in post and at a much lower cost and while there is time to do so. I also offer an archive negative cutting service after final video mastering if it’s part of the delivery requirement. Dan-- that triggers some memories. I had an 8mm slitter from the way old days when I would buy film from Superior Bulk Film Company out of Chicago and process it myself. They had a "kit" that included all the chemicals and a small slitter that cut the double 25' reel of 8mm film in half. It had to be the cheapest device ever: a block of wood, painted silver, with a razor in the middle, but it worked. I still have those 8mm films (black and white). |

Dan, couldn't a film such as that be slit by any lab that still processes reg 8 camera stock? Out my way I'd figure a couple phone calls would turn up a solution to this; don't have any idea where the nearest lab is in your neck of the woods. |

Bill, I'm thinking there might be a way to make a rig with a sharp blade and slit them myself. Chris Smith spoke of a sltter he had years ago that consisted of a piece of wood and a blade. |

Ah, I see -- there's a quantity involved and you want to have this as an ongoing possibility. Sometime in the next several weeks I might have a chance to see what a lab slitter looks like. I'll let you know if I do. |
