Post subject:  Eiki SNT-0 Sound Problem

I have an Eiki SNT-0. The audio is fine except for the treble control. When I turn the treble knob don't hear any change in high frequency. I plugged a microphone in to the mic in and could hear a good variation when turning the treble knob. I also tried realigning the exciter lens, but could get no more high end. Any more ideas as to what the problem is? More than one film was used to test the sound.

Dan,
Check first your exciter lamp. It is supposed to have a vertical, not horizontal filament. Had the same problem on my SL-0 machine. It was shipped to me with a horizontal filament and I always got very low sound on films. However the sound from the mic went straight to the amp.

I have been away for a few days and missed some posts. I will check the exciter lamp. I have several lamps, so maybe I will find one that will work right. Thanks. [set5_b/set5_b/cheers2.gif]

Richard is right. My source only has the short BRK lamp which had a horizontal filament. You will need a longer lamp with a vertical filament. Don't know why they are both listed as BRK lamps except for the voltage and amps drawn but there are two very different lamps. They don't really matter when you deal with older films but on the newer films, horizontal filaments really hurt fidelity. If you are showing older variable density then it doesn't maike a difference.
