Hey guys, got this project a few months back and have run film through it with mixed results. Now I've got some time to go inside and clean it out and see what the deal is. I've found some resources online for this projector but not an actual manual.
Specifically, the big problem I'm having is with the film speed. It is supposed to be able to switch from silent to sound speed, but I've been unable to do this with the provide lever. It seems jammed, so when I opened up the projector to take a look, what I think is going on is a flathead screw is preventing this from moving. It seems that if I unscrew this and leave it out, I will be able to move the lever and switch between speeds. However, this just seems very strange to me and wanted to make sure this is okay to do first especially since the quick start guide implies that I should be able to move the lever freely without any additional work. Does anybody have any experience with this projector and can confirm what I'm saying is accurate? Also, if anyone has a PDF manual (manual, not the service book which I have) it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Here are some pics to try and explain.

Marcus, not sure about the screw and the speed problem. Some people will rig these to only play in the sound mode, but I don't know how they do it.

Here is the manual:

I have one of these. When working they are great machines. What you may have a drive belt close to failing. You see, the lever just brushes the belt from a larger gear to a smaller one. When the belt is old and stretched out a bit it tends to float to the smaller gear by itself. Probably before you got it the last owner found that putting a screw against the lever will keep the belt from floting back and forth. You are right though, you shouldn't need a screw there to keep it in it's place. Look at the belt carefully and consider replacing it with a new one. Never a bad idea anyway.

Dan, I think that is how they did it, is with the screw. I had a 2595 B that someone had inserted a screw in order to keep from changing speeds. I took it out, and presto, the lever was free to move when you wanted to move it. I'd guess it was a home remedy safety lock-out...

Thanks for the pronto responses guys. Dan, yeah I found that PDF myself and didn't really find anything to beneficial at this point, but thanks for posting it anyways. Eric, I have noticed the speed switch during operation so you might be right. By looking the belt/lever, it seemed to make sense that moving the lever just moves the belt to different position on the motor that has a smaller circumference. Where could I go about purchasing a new belt? Also, is replacing one a difficult undertaking? I love film/cameras/projectors/etc., but my hands on, engineering, and handy-man skills aren't the greatest. For now, I'm still trying to get this darn screw out! It's in there tight! But, again, thanks for all the insight.

Royce

A phillips screwdriver is all you need. In our model, you need to take off the blower. That is it. Afer it is off changing the belt is as simple as one off one on. You can get an exact replacement from Urbanski film but locally I have been going to local sewing machine shops. They have the same belts. Just take in your old one and they can replace it. Once you put a new one on the lever on your projector should work fine and you may notice that the 24fps speed is much more steady. Let me know how it works out.
