Post subject:  Question About An Eiki Slot Load II
I have an Eiki Slot Load II. Since I don't have the Owner's Manual, I would like to know if you are suppose to be able to rewind with the film in the film path? I know most collectors take the film out to rewind, but is it possible to leave it in?

Another question: Are these 5 blade shutter machines?

I had one of those for about a month.

I didn't like even projecting through the film path, never mind rewinding. I hated not being able to see that rear sprocket.

Got rid of it and bought another manual threader.

So, you didn't have an owner's manual? This one runs fine, but if I rewind with the film in the projector it will eat the film. [set5_b/set5_b/drool5.gif]

Hey Dan, The Eiki is my main 16mm projector, been using one for a couple years now. When you disengage the film, the only thing in the film path should be rollers so it is possible to rewind while threaded. Remember though, you are adding a bit more stress to the film and if the film flaps around much during rewind there is still the possibility it can get scratched. Hasn't happened to me but I usually unthread before rewinding just out of habit.

Yeah, I had an owners manual. Hated the projector. I didn't trust it.

Ah ha! When I tried to rewind my test film while it was still in the film path, the film was touching a sprocket causing damage to the film. So, this means the the rollers are not being positioned properly in order to keep the film clear of any sprockets. Right?

I had an old Keystone once that walked about the house while we slept. No so bad, except it looted the fridge and drank our beer. The next day when I ran it, the darn thing made the most annoying sound and the picture kept weaving from left to right. [set5_b/set5_b/cheers2.gif]

All jokes aside, if your test film was damaged then the sprockets are somewhere still coming in contact with the film. Inside the plastic cover for the Eiki there should be a loading lable attatched that says it is safe to rewind threaded but not recommended. As stated, I've done it with several films with no problems but my Eiki was fully restored. A worn machine may be letting the film still touch the sprockets. If your test film got damaged then the logical choice is to remove the film from the projection path and rewind normally obviously.
