My Kodak CT-1000/Elmo has developed a muffled knocking sound while running; I have traced it to the shutter, but cannot figure out where the problem is. These machines do not have a manual operating knob, so am unable to turn things by hand to see where the knock is coming from.

It doesn't affect the image quality or steadiness, so should I worry? If all it needs is lube, where does it go and what should I use?

Jeff--
Can you determine if the shutter is bent? It is possibly making contact with something it shouldn't? If you remove the back of the machine (electric disconnected) you should be able to better see what's happening when you move the shutter. It could also be the claw needs adjustment. Here is a link to manuals on that machine which might help. Scroll all the way down to see the Elmo manual. http://www.film-tech.com/warehouse/manu ... CT1000.pdf

The shutter does not seem to be bent. I've tried cleaning the belt with a swab soaked in denatured alcohol, and that has helped some; after cleaning the noise takes longer to develop and is not as loud. (I can't even get in there very well to do a good job of that...) But actually changing the belt looks like major surgery!
