If a new collector or any other member of a forum is trying to work a deal on a film or piece of equipment posts a request for help from someone near the seller to check it out, is it okay for another member who sees the post to contact the seller and buy the item before the new collector can close the deal? Do you think this acceptable?

Nope. Not at all. If it was an item I was interested in I would certainly ask that the seller keep me in mind if the original collector decided to decline, but as far as I'm concerned, the original collector has first shot at it.

(So, if there are any rare or desirable items over here that you want me to check out for ya, Dan, just let me know...heh heh heh )

No...not acceptable. If the person that is asked to "check it out" has already been looking at the item as well, then he/she needs to bring that up with the person asking for help. But to just buy the item out from under them....no, no, no.

That's not good.

So far I concur.

Yes, in fact there is an I.B. Tech copy of Song Of The South near you for $75.00 and I think the seller will throw in an LPP scope Bond of my choice at no extra cost. Would you check it out for me? [set5_b/set5_b/sifone.gif]

I sure wouldn't call that person a friend. A "friend" wouldn't do that...

The collector in question is now posting on the other forum about his $85 dollar GS-1200. Members are patting him on the back and saying what a great find, way to go. [set5_b/set5_b/smash.gif] [set5_b/set5_b/chillpill.gif]

Without commenting on the whole situation regarding ethics or whatever, I have to say though that a working GS for $85 is a pretty nice deal.
