Ed, if you have found an Elmo GS-1200 in good working order for $200 dollars, grab it! Maybe the seller will ship it to you via UPS Ground. Shipping for 45 pounds is around $20.00.

Wow, Now my St units look simple compared. Didn't know there were so many more drive components involved with the GS unit. Still love them but again, that thing is a beast. Totally understand having more sound boards in the projector but I just figured the main drive was as simple as mine. I kind of like having just a few belts and gears. Didn't know this unit was so complex. I know they don't come up for sale a lot but what is usually asked for them? By the way, at $200 I'd be on the road right now to pick one up.

Lately I have have seen them sell on Ebay from $700 to $1000. Before 2008 the going price was around $1200.

I don't really want a GS-1200 at the moment, but given one available for 200 bucks I'd probably change my mind quickly!

I always imagine somewhere somebody is cleaning out their parent's house and finds a fairly mint GS in the closet:

"What are we going to do with Dad's VCR?"

"Oh, you can't even get the tapes anymore."

-next day there it is standing out at the curb...

Probably the day AFTER I drove down that street!

Yeah, for $200 I'd buy one just to see what the fuss is all about.

My friend and I use both the ST1200HD and the GS 1200. The HD was bought new in 1979 and has been a great workhorse over the years; we have been able to carry out the few repairs/fit replacement parts it needed ourselves.

We acquired the GS about 12 years ago for £340 which included the Elmo speakers. Again, we have fixed the occasional little problems ourselves and I have to say the GS comes into its own when used in a hall. In January I did a presentation for our local 'over 50's' club, the sound and picture quality was excellent in spite of not having good blackout conditions. [it was an afternoon show] OK, I don't need or use the extensive recording or synching bits and pieces and the GS can be temperamental on times, [set5_b/set5_b/smash.gif] but all is forgiven when those first few frames appear on screen.

Hahaha....Mal, you project more film than I do these days. As I said before, I feel a bit of a fraud on these forums now.

Had purolater all set up,cost 76.00 dollars . The gentleman was afraid of scams and ripoff which somrone had allready tried. But a deal was made and it seems there is more to see when I get there. So 6hr drive 1 1/2hr look and load then turn and burn. The things you for a hobbie.

Ed, good going! Six hours is a long drive, but if you have the time go for it. Keep us posted on your new find.
