Yes the 8hr drive there and back in snow doesn"t seem that bad now. Also made a good freind Roland with many stories to tell he's worth stopping to see on my to Montreal.

There's a gear on the outer end of the takeup reel shaft, inside the back case which is held onto the shaft with two grub screws. Check to make sure the grub screws are tight because if they are loose you will get the slipping problem you mention. Sometimes the grub screws can strip the threads on the boss of that gear making tightening impossible. Then you need a new gear. Check also that the two lugs on that outer gear aren't broken or rounded off, otherwise they won't connect properly with the matching lugs on the inner gear which will also cause the slipping problem you mention.

The other thing I can think of is that the transistorised motor speed control circuit or the three 1 watt diodes on the main board may be faulty. Sometimes the transistors or often the diodes need to be replaced. Good luck.
