This is something which intrigues me. I notice on another forum, somebody selling prints with stripe but no actual track.

So:

1) Why are these prints made mute in the first place?

2) Who releases them?

3) How does one actually go about recording a track?

Sounds like waaaayyyy too much trouble to me. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just buy a print with the track already on?

What kind of films are they? Super 8 commercial release?

TITANIC.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.

- these were the particular titles this time, but I've come across others over the years.

I see. Maybe someone botched an attempt at rerecording a new track and just erased everything. Maybe they sent their films to CX for re-striping.

Hah! Maybe so.

These were selling at, respectively, 725 euro and 900 euro. Thing is, people seemed enthusiastic about buying them so I wondered, is this re-recording of soundtracks at home a common thing with Super 8 collectors?

Are they selling at that price with the blank tracks?
I don't think rerecording at home is common.

Well, they haven't sold but no one seems to be troubled by the price. Check it out for yourself over at the 8mm forum.

I understand some folk use their GS1200 recording facility to record soundtracks from DVD.
Is this easy to do?

The GS-1200 still needs a device to sync the dvd with the projector. Last time I looked this device was around $300.

Interesting.
It does seem like a lot of trouble to go to, though.

Anyway, thanks for your replies, Dan.
