No to rain on anyone's parade but my experience with Super 8 projectors puts Chinon's I have owned at the mid to lower range of desirable machines. Unfortunately I can't tell you what they were (I had two) as I got rid of them happily - they scratched and chewed film. In order I find the Elmo ST 800, Sankyo Stereo 800 and Eumig 810D most reliable followed closely by the Elmo ST 1200 of the machines I use. But - they are all old machines and will develop their own issues over time - scratching and mangling film (especially when loading) was what I most disliked about the Chinons so off they went. |

The Sankyo Stereo 800 is a beautiful machine. I had one and I sold it, much to my regret now. |

Purchased an 800 from eBay that to my dismay did not work after receiving it. Had a terrible time with the seller and finally managed to get half of my money back. Ended up selling for parts and finished with 3/4 of its cost. Looked like a nice machine. |

I could find only one fault (for want of a better word) with mine. There wasn't a light baffle under the air grille on top of the machine. It tended to let out too much light, more than any other machine I've had, thus leaving the room less than dark. It just had too many sound/recording bells and whistles on it for my use, which is why I sold it to fund a ST1200. |

The ELMO ST1200 is my favorite machine. Elmo is a very well thought out projector, in my opinion , making the film path, aperture and pressure plate easily accessible for cleaning. |

One more match to the GAF 3000S Ward 830 Super Eight Movie Sound Projector http://www.super8data.com/database/proj ... rd_830.htm So this particular model of projector was originally manufactured by Chinon (The Chinon 8000) and was marketed under different brand names by GAF and Montgomery Ward . . . and probably more to follow . . . ?? |
