Here is a question, I wonder who can answer it. How come my 8mm or super 8 mm film when projecting it "breaths" , meaning it goes slightly in and out of focus. How can it move in the gate??? Thanks Andy |

It could be one of a few things or a combination of. Do all your films breath8? If so, it could be the springs on the aperture pressure plate. Or it could be the films are curling because of excess moisture and(or) heat where they are stored. You can put the films on a rewind and apply a lubricant like Filmguard or Film Renew. This would relax the film and it it would lay flatter in the gate. If it is not all the films that go in and out of focus, then apply one of the chemicals to the problem film and let it sit for a day or two with a tight wind. |

I have had this with brand new prints, not all the way through, just for a couple of seconds, and this was with a new projector. Has anyone else on here used Solvon Type 2, and how do they find it compared to other film cleaners/lubricants. I have one 16mm print that goes in and out of focus a bit; not sure that Solvon will cure this. The old lubricant I used, the now defunct 2.22 could make brittle film more ; I don't think Solvon has the same effect. |
