My lamp just blew in my machine and the spare that I have is not quite as bright. Being an EFP and only 100w I can't afford to lose any brightness. Which brand of lamp do I need to get for best results?

Roger, get them here. They're reasonable priced and good brands. They ship quick too. In the Atlanta area.

Hi Dan,

There's one lamp that is suppose to be 20% brighter than the rest. Can you tell me which it is?

Yes, Divine Lighting carries those also. They are called Osram Xenophot EFP

This is where I get them:

http://www.replacementlightbulbs.com/lampefp.html

It pays to remember that the code "EFP" is a standard and this means that all the lamps that meet that standard will basically perform the same way. Maybe "better" ones will exceed minimum specs and get under maximums by more than cheapies, but you're not getting 150 hours out of a 50 hour rated bulb no matter who makes it.

Basically whatever lamps I've ever used: I put 'em in, they light the screen up pretty much the same and one day long after I've forgotten how long they've been in there, I go to show a film and the screen stays dark.

Then I have this little mantra I say to myself:

"please be the lamp!, please be the lamp!, please be the lamp!..."

Then again since lamps are probably among the least expenses I have doing this hobby, I buy the Osrams because they have the best reputation. (It's kind of like filling your tank with premium gas even if you can't feel a difference!)

The best collection of new lamps is here in Indiana. Contact Interlight.com. They have the lowest prices on lamps in the business. I have dealt with them for years and they have never charged me over 20 bucks for a lamp in any format.

Here is the link to Iterlight.com:

They sell an EFR/LL with a life of 500 hours. Wow! I guess the LL stands long life.

I went on ebay and bought a Osram Xenophot EFP lamp. It was only a 50 hour one but with shipping it only cost $7.99. After installing it I could immediately see an improvement in brightness. My other lamp must have been a lower quality one. Treating my prints with FilmGuard seemed to help improve the picture quality also. The next lamp I purchase will have a longer life expectancy and I now enjoy my films much more.

Glad to hear. Still Interlight will give you the best deals on longer lasting lamps. Not trying to puff up their business but they are local and have always done me well. I have a $15 lamp in my super 8mm that was only supposed to last 15 hours but is well over 30 hours now. Just a suggestion.
