I just received a feature film on standard 8. It jumps upwards about every four seconds. I treated it with Film Guard before projecting, but it still jumps. I tried jumping off my seat in unison with the print, but gave out of energy. Anyone have a cure for this film. Is it shrinkage? The film is The Battle For The River Platt, an old Walton Print.

Did you treat the film or soak the film? With Filmrenew, if you soak it for about a week then let it dry and wipe it clean usually it helps with shrinkage. Soaking the film involves using steel reels and cans and you must fully submerge the film. Also you didn't mention but does the filim have vinigar syndrome? That is a good indication of shrinkage. Have had the same problem with a few 16mm prints and have found that going through the soaking process brings prints back to life for awhile at least.

I'm not set up for soaking films, but I did coat it with Film Guard. I'll run it again soon to see if the FG softened it up.

Have you ever tried Peter Goed's LFP?
I can't speak for whether or not it has any effect on a print with VS but it worked a couple miracles on warped 16mm prints for me a couple years back.

i read all the posts on this product, but have never tried it. I try to use chemicals as little as possible. [set5_b/set5_b/cheers2.gif]
