I guess you could vacuum them off or blow them off with a can of "Blow Off". Also a soft cotton cloth and Windex would work.

Really, only the center of the actual lens is used for projection unless you have a specialty or zoom lens. One treatment that has worked for years for me and I still use now is simple. 70% rubbing alcohol. It doesn't damage the coating on the lenses and cuts through pretty much anything from finger oils to smoke damage. A light spray of rubbing alcohol on something like an old sock (Clean of course) or any other pure cotten cloth should clean up the lens, barrel, or any other part of the lens safely. If you have serious (Schmutz) then keep in mind that lenses can be taken apart so you can clean the inside surface also. Every lens is different and some take special tools but I've always used rubbing alcohol on everything from reg 8mm lenses to 35mm and always had crystal clear results with no scratching or fogging. One example is a 35mm sound portable projector that sat in someones garage for about 40 years. After making the projector work I cleaned dirt and grime from who knows how long from the lens with rubbing alcohol. Beautiful picture to this date.

Windex leaves behind a residue that foggs with heat. The residue is from the scent added to Windex. Also Windex contains ammonia which will take coatings off a lens.

Eeeek! You're right. Do not use Windex on lens. [set5_b/set5_b/banghead.gif]

I use a lens cleaning kit I grabbed at the local camera shop. It has a SOFT brush for dusting...cleaning liquid & tissues for finger prints & such...and a SOFT cloth for touch-ups.
