Has anyone ever found an optical feature on low-fade stock? I have several airline prints, but all on Eastman with vary color loss. Were optical features only made for airlines. Seems a few years back I saw a James Bond Thunderball optical on low-fade. It was slightly edited by about 12 minutes, if I recall correctly.

I have PALE RIDER on low fade and the last reel of TOOTSIE (3 x 600ft) is also low fade. My THUNDERBALL (bought from you by the way) is not on low fade but remains watchable.

Yes, I have a copy of the Eastman Thunderball also. But, I thought there was also an optical release in low-fade. Do you know what stock Pale Rider is printed on? What a great movie, Pale Rider.

I was told optical features were made strictly for airlines. I was also told the main reason was the employees were stealing magnetic sound features so the industry quickly produced optical sound features. (This is top secret info.; be sure it doesn't leak out)

I've watched one reel of one feature (Thunderball; which appears to be the one main optical feature that's been around the most) and was offered The Driver w/ Ryan O'Neill but it was too red so I passed it up.

I agree, Dan. PALE RIDER is one of the great westerns and a virtual remake of SHANE. One of Clint's best.

John

What made them think that the employees wouldn't steal the optical prints?

Optical weren't as common. Not many had an optical sound projector at home but plenty had magnetic sound projectors as we know. I surmise the thieves wouldn't bother taking the optical sound prints home; unless they can get away with taking the optical sound projectors off the plane and concealing those also.

Of course. That does make sense.
