Thanks for posting a photo. I did manage to find a QLV-1 socket for around $12.00 which included shipping. Last night I installed it in my Kodak Sound 8. The way I did it is to leave the existing socket in place. I straddled the QLV-1 over the top of the original socket, then used two 1-1/4" screws to to reach the 2 holes on each side of the original socket. There is a metal shield to the right side of the new socket that had to be reshaped in order to line the socket properly. I routed the wires the same way as in your photo. It worked great!! Thanks. Here is the bad part - I went inside the chassis to try and quieten down the motor and in trying to release the blower fan, broke the plastic fan. I did manage to find a replacement fan with the same dimensions. When the fan arrives and I get it all back together, I'll post photos.

P.S. Sure would like to see the 28mm projector.

I received the new blower fan for the Kodak Sound 8 today. Wow! it is the exact same one. looks like they are still around 50 years later. I will report back when the project is finished.

Okay, the motor has stopped working! Refer to another post "Paging Steve Klare": viewtopic.php?f=8&t=826 Steve and several other members have determined this motor is fried and can't be replaced.

Update!! Stop the presses! Hold the door! i have bought another Kodak Sound 8. The lamp mod will now be carried out on this machine. Muhahahahahah! I will provide pix.

Quick question- any idea what kind of lumen output the 250w lamp puts out? Have you considered LED as a light source? Cree XM-L LEDs put out 1040 lumens at 10w. You can run them at 6.3W, and still have around 750 lumens. There's enough room in the light box to integrate 4 XM-L emitters pretty easily, maybe a couple more, so you'd be looking at around 3,000 lumens conservatively- more if you wanted to deal with more heat soak. You could also fine tune the color temperature with different emitters.

Something to consider.

Well, the Kodak Sound 8 arrived today and it is not as described. It's going back tomorrow. The hunt is afoot again.

Michael, I have no idea what the lumens are. I should become more knowledgeable about this. Th LED possibility sound great though.

Dan...I'll tell you something else to be on the lookout for...I just picked up a used Kodak Hi-Mat 8mm projector for $36 because it had an f1.0 lens in it. These lenses fit the Kodak sound 8 perfectly! The regular Hi-Mat lenses is an f1.5 zoom lens which is a nice option to have from the fixed sound 8 lenses, but keep an eye out for the 1.0

Dino, I too recently picked a Hi-Mat Sound 8 too. I'll have to check the lens. This week i am picking up another Kodak Sound 8 projector locally. It's suppose to be in very good working order. I am going to adapt the light mod to it and post pics. Then I will be able to screen my print on The Invisible Man and To Be Or Not To Be with a 300watt halogen. That's brighter than my GS-1200, wow!

Just received another Kodak Sound 8 and it works fine. I will try to do the halogen lamp mod this afternoon and post pics. It has the standard f:1.6 - 3/4" lens. Is there a lens that will throw a larger image? Maybe a 1/2"?

Here is the lamp mod.

Unplug the power cord!

1. Remove the two screws from the original lamp socket and disconnect the the 2 wire.
2. There is a black metal plate between where the original lamp was and the motor. Bend half of that plate and fold it bacl against itself.
3. Place the old socket in it's original position and set the new socket on top of it. You will need two new longer screws to make it through the new socket and down through the old socket to original socket holes. Also, on the new socket you will have to drill a new hole on the back side so the new longer screw will line up with the hole below.
4. Take the two lamp wires on the projector and cut off the clips, strip them and connect them to the new socket wires with wire nut connectors and position them as show.
5. Screw the lamp house cover on, but not too tight because it presses against the new lamp socket.
