Steve, it is a 1961 projector. The schematic is stapled to the inside of the projector. I'll release the staples and make some scans and post them.

OK Dan, Your motor is definitely intended to be connected up to AC line voltage. If you take it out of the machine and connect it up to normal house current and it just buzzes it's probably toast. If it did when installed I'd wonder if the shaft wasn't being allowed to turn. I don't know what goes on inside AC motors well enough to give you advice on repairing it. I studied AC motors in High School (tubes too!)...of course Jimmy Carter was still in the White House at the time! -used to be shops everywhere specialized in motor repair, just like there used to be other shops specialized in TV, camera or appliance repair! |

Thanks for all the help, Steve. I'll plug straight into household a/c and that should let me know if it is fried or not. I'll let you know. The little motor visually looks good. maybe someone can repair it if it doesn't work. BE CAREFUL!!!!! 115 VAC might kill you, but even if you get off lightly it will toss you across the room. (I speak from more experience here than I'm happy to have!) We care about you Dan! |

Okay, I survived and am back to explain the experience. ![[set5_b/set5_b/conehead.gif]](./images/smilies/set5_b/set5_b/conehead.gif "cone head") I plugged the motor into 115v a/c.  It tried to turn, but didn't. The loud buzzing sound was still present. Nothing is binding the motor because it turns easily when not plugged in. I hate to sound biased but you are probably best off to just get a new motor. If you want to try repair though I may have a couple outlets. The place I get my belts and other accesories from is the Jasper Vac and Sew, they may have a websight. Also here in town is the Jasper electric motor company. You can search them both online. Hopefully one of them can help out. If not, I'd consider finding another machine and using it for parts. |

After calling around, I have come to the conclusion the motor is fried. ![[set5_b/set5_b/rant.gif]](./images/smilies/set5_b/set5_b/rant.gif "rant") My modification project is now on hold until I find a motor out of a junker or another machine.

Motors are often "generic" parts: It usually doesn't pay for a manufacturer of specialized equipment to design and produce their own motor when they can go out and find one that's already got years of field experience at wholesale prices. Maybe if you find an electrical supply with a catalog of motors they can find you a brand new one. I'll admit the 50 years of age is not a plus here, but it could work! Of course you have to brace yourself for the "Why don't you get a VCR/DVD Player/Blu Ray Player (whatever)" Like I got when I walked into a sewing machine shop trying to buy a projector belt! Answer: "I am a curator of a small private museum of the cinema arts!". |
