Welcome to the Forum, Steve. I have a Chinon 4100 but it's packed away somewhere in this archive headquarters. I was wondering if there is a heat shield of some type that may be "stuck"...Elmo's have a shield that drops and protects the film when the film stops in the gate. My memory says that Chinon doesn't have such a thing, but check anyway--it would be between the lamp and film gate. Another possibility is a piece of film hung up in the machine and distorting with the lamp throw. The bulb itself could be defective. You said it's new, but I've encountered faulty new bulbs before. What does the light look like without any film in the gate?
