Picked up an ELMO 16 CL projector with a few problems. The flywheel had been messed with and would not keep the proper tension on the film causing the sound to mimic a dragging tape player. Removing the wheel I found that bearings were missing from inside and the hole had been drilled larger. I found a bearing on ebay that would work and now have good film tension plus what seems to be good sound. I noticed a screw and a nut that apparently has also been fiddled with in the sound head area. Is there an adjustment that can be done to the sound head to insure that it is producing the best sound possible?

If what you are looking at is between the sound lamp and the film path then you are finding an adjustment to correct the asimuth of the cat-eye. This determines how the passing light passes through the film onto the pickup. With your tone control turned up all the way, if the azimuth is correct then the sound should be good and clear. The further off the azimuth the sound may get muddy sounding. If the sound is good then I wouldn't mess with it. If you want though, you can adjust it with the film running until you reach desired fidelity of the sound.

Thanks Eric,

I'm surprised that I was able to get it sounding as well as it does. I just wanted to make sure that the volume and clarity was at it's peek.

Why would these two things have been moved and what do they do? The nut above the exciter lamp and the screw just below and to the left of the lamp next to the glass on the sound head.

I think I see what you are talking about now Roger. If you notice the empty screw hole to the bottom right of the exciter lamp and the replaced screw just above it then it looks like some sort of cover has been removed probably so the projection lamp would disturb the exciter lamp. Also, something probably covered, Probably the same shield, the exposed electronic board. As long as the sound is clear and loud I wouldn't give it much more of a thought.
