Post subject:  Rerecording Mag Tracks With a PC
Correction; Below I refferred to the Elmo "ST-1200" . It should have been the Elmo GS-1200. I have made the corrections in bold letters.

Joerg Niggemann indroduced this idea a few years ago and I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to do it. I am one day going to rerecord an English soundtrack to my print of Diabilique(I know it is a sacrilige). I have uploaded the movie from a VHS tape to an Editor. I can generate a square wave at any hz and add it to the editor. I just need to wire up a patch cord between the computer and the GS-1200.

I was reading the manual for the ST-1200(GS-1200) and it mentioned sycning options. Would it be possible to sync up an ST-1200(GS-1200)?

Hy Dan,

To re-record a film, i always use an ST1200 and a reel to reel with a pitch control. So, with this pitch control can I reduce speed of the reel to reel to synchronise with the ELMO.

And it work fine.

The only think you must pay attention is to keep an eye on the picture during the hole projection and to accomodate the speed of the reel to reel to be synchronise with the movie.

Can i re record my movies in dutch sub with my dvd player?
And where i can find the pitchcontrol on my st1200?
I want to know exactly what i must to do,to re-record my Derann prints.
I became uncle for the first time and now i want dutch language in stereo
for my upcoming nephew or cousin.
And is it possible te keep the English track?

Jeroen, which model ST-1200 do you have? I don't think any of the ST-1200s have a variable speed control option. If you have an ST-1200HD, You can playback stereo sound through the headset out. This way you can separate the balance track from the main track. One right and one left.

With this model you can record two different languages. One on the left and one on the right. Remember though, when listening to the playback through the projector's speaker you will hear both tracks. The ST-1200s do not have a sync option, so rerecording a new track will be like flying by the seat of your pants. :eek: Trail and error.

But you can erase the whole English soundtrack and dub it in Dutch.
I have the Elmo ST1200HD and want to re record the whole movie.
But it was very difficult to get it in sync,can you tell me exactly how i can get it in sync?
I think with an automatic projector it goes better because the Elmo has a variable speed
and that's why it goes so difficult,any suggestions?

Yes. There should be two sound strips. One on each side of the film.

It is done through trial and error and a little luck. You have to find the first frame of the movie on the dvd or vhs and also cue up the first frame on the film. Unless you can speed up or slow down the projector or the sound source while recording, you will have to stop when it goes out of sync and start again from that point. Some people transfer the soundtrack from the dvd od vhs to a reel to reel tape deck that has a variable speed control. This will allow you to vary the speed in order to keep it in sync while recording.

Thought I would bring this post back up to see if anyone has had time to sync a PC with a GS-1200. The only thing standing between me and trying it is making a cable to connect the PC to the sync in on the GS-1200 and time to do it.

I guess I am going to have to make the bloody cable. [set5_b/set5_b/toetap05.gif] And when I do i will experiment on a film. if I am sucessful, I will rule the world. Ahhhhhhhhh, ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. :roll: Well, maybe not the world, but like my room or something? :mrgreen:

I have the ST1200D projector and I think what he's reffering to is a plug on the front of the projector that sent out a pulse signal to a cassette based machine advertised in the users manual. This was used to dub the sound to the film but it was a propriatary system with Elmo. There is a mono looking 1/4" female plug on the front of the projector that sends out 24fps pulses to synce with their cassette system. Since modern tech, some people have been able to create obscure software to sync the output with first laserdisc and later DVD for rerecording soundtracks. Not sure if the same feature was on later Elmo projectors since I only own the one but I think this is what he is talking about.

When I show Disney features to the kids, I play the Dutch soundtrack from the DVD in sync with the GS1200 Elmo. Once you esatblish sync, it stays in sync for the whole reel. Provided that there are no missing frames off course.
I play a 25hz square sound signal and feed this through the ESS socket.
You set up the film, set up the DVD on the same spot. Simultaneously you hit the play button on the computer playing the DVD and the MP3 player playing the square sound signal.
You can compare the image on the screen and on the laptop and make speed corrections with the slow/fast button on the GS1200. Once you hit sync, you leave it alone and enjoy the show that stays in perfect sync.
It take some practice but in the end it is a very simple thing.
