Okay folks, here's one to mark on your calendar, plan your parties and check in from around the world.... I was in my archive this weekend, locating a film to send to Dan Lail (found it, Dan!), and I went back into the room that houses "Vinegarville". Actually, "Vinegarville" is just a shelf far removed from my main archive, where maybe 10-12 suspect and certain reels of vinegar syndrome prints spend their final days. They project okay, but they suffer the VS breakdown and I keep them removed from my main collection. Weeeeeellllll, yesterday I discover, in a stack of long forgotten and neglected reels, my VITAFILM TEST from 2007. Sometime around 2000, I bought a big lot of films. from a guy and he included a partial pint of the OLD VITAFILM (NOT the new, reincarnated stuff that claims VS CURES) was included in the purchase. It was in a tin can, maybe a half a pint left in a quart can, and had a tractor feed computer label which I suspected meant Blackhawk originally sold it... the same type of label you see on the Blackhawk boxes. Well, to make a short story long, I am a fan of Filmrenew and had no experience using Vitafilm. I did have a SEVERELY warped reel of black and white home movies--it was "star" shaped on the reel--and I figured I would give the experiment a try. Into lab can with the OLD formula VITAFILM, duct taped closed, labeled and dated. And forgotten. As you can see in the photo, the immesion date was ALMOST 8 years ago. I am resisting temptation to open it now. I decided to wait until August 30 to open the can and share the results with my Forum members....Will the film still be star shaped? (Is this event on a magnitude of Geraldo Rivera and the Al Capone "hidden room"??) Note- I think I can feel liquid STILL sloshing around in the sealed can... Well, I will post reminders for the Big Day, so plan your parties. I think this will set a WORLD RECORD for the longest film soak, etc.
